Our trip to Okehampton for a photoshoot

DSC03400

Our Creative Director, Pete, Art Director, Sarah and Photographer, Andrew headed down to Devon a few weeks back to do a photoshoot for one of our clients. Man alive it was soooo windy Pete needed to hold the photographer down while trying to get the money shot.

Here we are again, but this time with some proper safety ropes. Notice how Pete wasn’t tied in….

Lex in Revolution

Revolution Article (image - copy from magazine)

Our Strategy Director, Lex de Wynter, was invited by Revolution Magazine to take part in their recent round table debate about globalisation. That’s him in the middle, next to the interactive manager for Coca-Cola.

The article isn’t online yet, so you’ll just have to go out and buy a copy of the mag if you want to find out what was said. Or you could give Lex a call and invite him over for some biscuits and a chat – he’d love that.

Lovely to see the NMA picking up on our guys’ recent challenge (although it has been commented on how the words in bold aren’t always spelt correctly)

Movember

Some of the guys in the office are planning on getting all hairy during the month of November, in support of Movember to raise money for The Prostrate Cancer Charity.

Mo Bros, supported by their Mo Sistas, start Movember (November 1st) clean shaven and then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache. During Movember, each Mo Bro effectively becomes a walking billboard for men’s health and, via their Mo, raises essential funds and awareness for Movember’s men’s health partner – The Prostate Cancer Charity. At the end of Movember, a series of Gala Partés are held to thank Mo Bros and Sistas for their support and fund raising efforts.

But not everyone may take part, so to encourage some growth, this collection of possibilities has been put together.

Online Display Advertising – 15 Years Old Today

Wow, has it been that long? Great article in today’s Ad Age about the first ever (as far as we can tell) display campaign on the web.

The Men Who Stare at Goats

Last night I was treated to a preview screening of ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’ courtesy of lovefilm. I really enjoyed it but my wife thought it was weird. I think this might bomb commercially but will become a cult classic. Ewan McGregor’s American accent is a bit annoying – in a Sean Connery as a Spanish nobleman in Highlander kind of way – but his acting is great as is Clooney, Bridges and Spacey.

Everybody can be a Rupert

Listening to Radio 4 during a very long drive on Saturday from Hampshire to Norfolk, I heard a fascinating piece on PM about the changing face of newspaper printing.

Everyone’s heard about the eventual demise of the printed newspaper, but there is an interesting online start-up called Newspaper Club that is seeking to reverse the trend by offering us the facility to produce print and distribute our personalised newspapers. One example quoted is that of an eight page local paper focussing on content from one specific postcode – the equivalent of 15 households.

 The Book Club Boutique

I wonder what my local street’s version of “Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster” would be…

At the same time Business Week is running a report about another set of internet entrepreneurs – this time in Berlin – who are breathing life into the venerable medium of newsprint. The concept is Niiu, a printed newspaper which can be customised by users by aggregating content from 17 different German and international newspapers. All you need to do is select your articles for print before 2pm on the day before delivery.

On the other hand, with the launch of Kindle in the UK, it looks like another front has opened in the war between paper and plastic. Despite my scepticism about the swapping my beloved paperback for a $259 gadget which you can’t use in the bath, it looks like its picking up momentum. Some people already think it’s going to grow faster than the iPhone.

Team twentysix make the Royal Navy site

We’re on the Royal Navy homepage today for our “success” at the Commando Challenge! It’s great to have proud clients!

You can read the article for yourselves here.

twentysix Go Commando

The Royal Marines are one of our clients. And so what better way to raise a bit of money for charity than doing the 10K Commando Challenge assault course around the very same course the Royal Marines complete prior to entry. It’s a rugged cross-country run through Exmouth, interspersed with river crossings, numerous cramped, pitch-black, claustrophobia inducing tunnels and the infamous Sheep Dip, a concrete tube fully submerged under water.

It was a gruelling, punishing race. Not least because many of the team were suffering from the night before. Not to mention Martin “3.3″ Hearns, so called because he hadn’t ran farther than 3.3km during his intensive race preparation.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  • We managed to raise nearly £1,000 for charity
  • We came 17th out of 300 teams!!
  • We drank the hotel out of Sambuca the night before the race
  • No one died

Here are some of the photos:

Rachel Clarke in The Guardian

Our Head of Social Media, Rachel Clarke, was asked to write a piece for the Guardian about keeping blogging honest last week.

You can read what Rachel has to say about best practice for blogger endorsement here.

It would seem as though it’s all about transparency. So, in the spirit of full disclosure, I have to say that I wasn’t going to blog about this to start with. But then Rachel gave me a new iphone and £100 and I changed my mind. Funny that.
